Who Is Dorrie?
Dorrie Barbanel is a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst and Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has been serving children and families for over 15 years in New York and New Jersey.
As a professional and as a parent, Dorrie has enormous empathy for what all members of a family are going through.
She is here to help when you think you’ve tried everything or are scared to try anything.
Dorrie’s approach is grounded in evidence-based behaviorally analytic practices.
She uses her knowledge and clinical experience –and her own experience as a parent of 3– to assess and assist kids, teens, and families.
Dorrie has extensive experience with ASD, ADHD, and ODD.
Dorrie is experienced and skilled at expert witness report writing and testifying, as well as conducting Functional Behavioral Assessments, Behavior Intervention Plans, School Refusal Assessments, and ABA Skills Assessments for children.
In her spare time
Dorrie spends most of her non-working hours with her three children and husband. In whatever hours she has left over, you can find her trying to figure out how to grow the biggest flowers possible in her back yard, taking thousands of pictures, reading voraciously, and checking out every superhero movie she can.
Education & Career Progression
After earning a bachelor’s degree from Bryn Mawr College where she studied Developmental Psychology, Dorrie earned a master’s degree in Social Work with an emphasis on Family, Youth and Children’s Services from Columbia University. Dorrie went on to earn an Advanced Graduate Degree in Applied Behavior Analysis from Hunter College.
Dorrie began her career at the Jewish Board of Family and Children’s Services, where she earned the title “Peer Playgroup Psychotherapist.” She then went on to pursue her BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst) while providing ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) to families through New York State’s Early Intervention program. Once certified, she began working with Manhattan Psychology Group as a BCBA and Clinical Therapist. Dorrie went on to become internationally certified in Parent Child Interaction Therapy and now works with parents and children in her own private practice.
